We call breasts with high density mammary gland as “dense breast”.
Mammary gland looks white on mammography, and it is the same as cancer.
Which means it is not always easy to detect lesions only by mammography if your breasts are dense breast.
Density of mammary gland will be decrease with age but the ratio of dense breast is high among Asian postmenopausal women.
According to “Breast Cancer Clinical Guideline 2015” (Edited and revised by The Japanese Breast Cancer Society), the recommendation grade of mammography examination on breast cancer screening has been lowered from A* to B* in 2015 for over 50’s .
*Note;
Grade A = Highly recommended with enough scientific evidence.
Grade B = Recommended with scientific evidence.
I think it is important to understand how your breasts condition is first, and then you can choose appropriate examination method for you on regular breast cancer screening.
