Process of breast cancer screening

Let me introduce process of the breast cancer full-course screening at Sapporo Female Clinic with photos.

  1.   Please push the buzzer and tell us your name through an intercom at the entrance.

  1.  Attendant ask you to fill a medical questionnaire at the reception area.

  1.  After you completed the questionnaire, attendant will take you to the changing room. Change your clothes from the waist up into the robe in a locker. Please keep in mind that take off your underclothes and necklaces as well for X-rays.

Mammography examination;

Take off the robe and be a half-naked. X-rays 2 angles for each breast means that total 4 images we need. It takes around 10 minutes. A pressure board will push your breast and you may feel pain. The level of pain depends on your breast condition such as high/low density of mammary gland, not the size of breasts. If the pain is unbearable, please don’t hesitate to tell me “stop”.

After X-rays, I am going to ask you to wait for a moment at the waiting space. As soon as Dr. Akiko completed check the images, nurse will call you to come in.

  1.  In the consultation room, Dr.Akiko ask you some questions to confirm information on your medical questionnaire. And next, she asks you to sit on an examination chair for detection by touch and visual inspection including thyroid, lymph node around neck, armpits and breasts. She also check nipple discharge as well.

  1.  Next examination is done by ultrasound. Use gel on the probe and check inside with it. During this examination, we darken a room for clear image of the ultrasound.

  1.  Dr. provide you a result of total screening and also advices for self-check, timing and most appropriate type of examination for your next screening. If you want to receive a remind email for next screening (around a year later) from us, please let her/attendant know about it.
