A very interesting study report was published about that ‘The Thinker’ position seems to be a more efficient method for defecation than the sitting position.

After you had a mammography or an ultrasound examination at the breast care unit in our clinic, we can provide these digital data at your request.

It costs 540 yen and please give us 10 to 15 minutes to select data and burn them to CD-R.

You might need them when you return home for further examination, or to continue your treatment. Also, your insurance company may ask you to submit them for making a new contract.

Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any question regarding your digital data.

When you received prescribed medication at the Medical facility in Japan, you also receive “drug information sheet”.

However, many of the medical facilities have only Japanese version.

Most of our patients are Japanese or who understands Japanese in this clinic as well, but we also have non-Japanese speakers.

Therefore, I asked pharmaceutical companies, whether they have a drug information sheet in English, then, I learnt this website existed.

You can search drugs by product name, active substance or keyword such as “ointment hemorrhoid”. And search result will be a list with photos.

In Japan, most of the waiting areas at the medical facilities have newspapers, weekly journals about health, the economy and gossip magazines.

At our clinic, we have books and magazines that the clinic director and I have collected for female patients.

They are written in Japanese or English and cover topics such as recipes, handicrafts, pets, nature, travel and culture, etc.

We have nice photography books as well.

Several of the patients mentioned that they want to come to the clinic to enjoy those books without having a medical consultation.

Especially before their first appointment, most of the patients are nervous.

The purpose of our clinic library is to make patients forget that they are in a medical facility for a while and to help them enjoy their waiting time through reading, so they can relax as much as possible.

When people are nervous, their muscles stiffens and it causes more pain during exams, such as mammography.

Actually, searching for books for the clinic waiting area is time consuming, but it is one of the fun jobs to do on the weekend.

I ask my patients various questions first, including ones about their bowel movements, at the proctology clinic. It is important for me to know about the shapes and the types of their stools. However, it is difficult for patients to explain the type to me, because they have no chance to compare their own stools with others. So, I draw the “Bristol Scale”. This is a diagnostic medical tool designed to classify stools into seven groups. It helps my patients to tell me about their bowel habits.

Type1: Separate hard lumps, like nuts (hard to pass); also known as “goat feces”

Type 2: Sausage-shaped, but lumpy

Type 3: Like a sausage but with cracks on its surface

Type 4: Like a sausage or snake, smooth and soft

Type 5: Soft blobs with clear cut edges (passed easily)

Type 6: Fluffy pieces with ragged edges, a mushy stool

Type 7: Watery, no solid pieces, entirely liquid

The most important thing is that your stools are easy to pass!

Day surgery: it sounds easy and convenient, like a drive-through, but actually, day surgery is still a surgical operation.

If you are interested in having day surgery at my clinic, I would like to provide you in advance  with some information and guidelines regarding the process.

1.   You need to have our nurse give you a blood test and a set of preoperative instructions at least a week before the day surgery.

➡ We need to confirm that the condition of your health is good enough to receive surgery without hospitalization. We also need to provide you with enough information and instructions for a safe operation.

2.   Having a follow-up consultation on the day after surgery is essential.

➡ On that day, I will ask you about the level of pain you feel and if you are having any bleeding. I must also conduct a postoperative examination to determine further treatment in order to cure you completely .

3.   You shouldn’t eat anything before your surgery.

➡ This is to prevent possible vomiting and asphyxia during the operation.

4.   Don’t put on makeup before surgery.

➡ During the operation, we need to observe the color of your face and lips, which indicate your condition, especially if you develop a problem.

5.   Remove your nail polish or artificial nails before coming to the clinic.

➡ During the operation, we need to monitor your blood oxygen level using a device placed on a fingertip. Nail polish and artificial nails may interfere with this device.

6.   Also remove contact lenses, eyeglasses , necklaces, rings, and earrings before surgery.

➡ You will be asleep under full sedation during the surgery. Also, we use an electric tool during the operation, so in order to prevent electric shock or other injury, it is better to not wear metal objects on your body.

7.   You should not drive a vehicle or ride a bicycle until the next morning after the surgery

➡ Even if you receive permission from the doctor to go home after the day surgery, it takes time for your body to completely recover from the sedation. For your safety, please use public transportation on the way home from the clinic.

We provide the above information to you in your preoperative instructions, but if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me or a nurse.

One of the most common symptoms we see in our proctology unit is anal itch .

The condition may be caused by hemorrhoids, fissures, or dermatitis.

Another possibility is Candida.

The cause of dermatitis can be an eruption of the skin around the anus caused by frequent diarrhea or the use of sanitary products; it may start with skin blush and develop into a sore abrasion.

If you begin proper treatment around this stage, it does not take long to cure.

However, if the itch is allowed to become chronic dermatitis, the skin becomes harder and festers, so that the level of the itch is intense enough to wake you up at night.

Even if you see a proctologist at this point, it will take at least a few months to complete the treatment.

It might be embarrassing to see a proctologist because of anal itch, but note that this is a very common symptom in proctology.

We recommend that you be brave and see a doctor before a small itch becomes a prolonged and troublesome situation.

In addition, we would like to advise you not to wash the area affected by anal dermatitis with soap or to scrub the skin; doing so will just worsen the symptoms.

Q1: I made an appointment at Proctology but if I got a period on the day, should I re-arrange my appointment?

A: You don’t need to change your date of appointment due to the period. There is no problem for us to conduct an examination or consultation.
However, if you are not comfortable, then please change your appointment accordingly.

Q2: Can I go to the clinic accompanied by children?

A: Yes, please feel free to bring your children with you.
We have some picture books and small toys for children and also there is a lavatory equipped with a diaper changing table and child seat.
However, we ask you to refrain from accompanying by male children over 10 years old when there are other patients inside of the clinic.
Our clinic is for female patients and escorts only in principle.

Q3: I have itchiness around anus. Which doctor should I go to see? A dermatologist or a proctologist??

A: Dermatologist is also available to see those symptoms. But there is a possibility the itchiness is related to hemorrhoids or stool abnormally. There for, we recommend to see a proctologist.

Itchiness by inflammation of nipple might be a symptom of breast cancer. So please go to see a breast surgeon ASAP.
